Not in my name: apostasy as a form of resistance

late March in Buenos Aires will be a collective apostasy where hundreds of people will ask the Catholic Church to delete your personal data records. We talked to organizers of this action, also with Marta Alanis, representative of Catholics for a Free Choice and how to resist and dissent from within the Church, and Alejandra Sarda-Chandiramani who tells us why he decided to forsake.

"AWID: How did the idea of apostasy?

Torricella Paula: In late 2008, the feminists who participated in the listserv of the RIMA - Women's Information Network of Argentina , rebalsábamos of outrage after the President of Uruguay, Vázquez, vetoed the law passed a few days ago, supported by a vast political spectrum, which legalized abortion up to three months of pregnancy. The Catholic Church threatened to excommunicate politicians who support the law. Tabaré Is echoed that threat or just could not resist the temptation to impose all the people their own convictions, also Catholic? In any case, it was clear the power of intervention that has the Catholic Church in the democratic process, imposing their dogmas on Catholics and non-Catholics equal and impeding the exercise of self awareness and empower citizens. Against that power to intervene, absolutely illegitimate (but a political machine, no one voted in the church) is that we wanted to demonstrate.

In Argentina we had similar episodes, though not as symbolic: the church hinders the law permits abortions, contraceptive distribution and implementation of sex education; insults the collective LGTTBI while defending molesters, rapists, murderers.
I think the idea of a visible action against these practices of the church is coagulated with Tabaré veto, but the outrage came before. Cecilia

Galcerán: It must be pointed out that they were feminists who took the post of this action immediately joined the militant atheist activists, activists of the movement of sexual diversity and people who do not belong to any organization. Thus the movement began to roll on different social spaces, setting strongly in people, and those movements and organizations of struggle that are more aware of the interference of this institution is by definition oppressive Catholic Church in the politics of rights human and''human''.
